Pell Grant Financial Aid Now Available for Full Year

The U.S. Department of Education has approved a new policy which allows students to receive a full-time Pell Grant on a year-round basis.  Prior to this, the grant funded a maximum of two full-time semesters during a traditional academic year.

"The Federal Pell Grant program is the foundation upon which most financial aid packages are based," says Dr. Chip Quisenberry, Enterprise State Community College Financial Aid Director.  "Annual award amounts vary according to student status and payment schedules provided to ESCC by the U. S. Department of Education.  These grants do not have to be repaid unless a student completely withdraws from ESCC before attending at least 60% of a given term."

To be eligible for the third semester of Pell Grant funding, students have to enroll in courses that apply toward their second year of college.  They have to be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester in the preceding academic year, and then must enroll for a minimum of 6 credit hours for the summer semester to qualify.  Payment continues as with the other semesters, once per semester.
According to the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, the first summer semester awards will be applied in 2010.  To obtain any financial aid, students must apply online at fafsa.ed.gov.  To apply for financial aid for the 2010-2011 academic year, the deadline for ESCC students is midnight, May 15, 2010.

For more information about the Pell Grant and other financial aid programs, call Dr. Quisenberry at (334) 347-2623, ext. 2214 or go online to www.escc.edu.

ESCC's Tuition Lowest in Alabama

November 13, 2009-   Although the Alabama State Board of Education approved a $14.00 increase in tuition for the two-year college system, Enterprise State Community College still has the lowest tuition of the public colleges or universities in Alabama.  With tuition at $85 per credit hour for in-state students, ESCC is still half  that of most four-year Alabama institutions.
Many students will get additional assistance if they apply for financial aid. The Federal Pell Grant has extended awards to include summer semesters which more than offsets the increase in tuition.  Other financial aid assistance for ESCC students includes scholarships, VA benefits, and loans.  ESCC Financial Aid counselors are available to assist students in the financial aid application process.

For more information about being admitted to the College or how to register for the upcoming spring semester, go online to www.escc.edu, or call the Enterprise Campus at (334) 347-2623, ext. 2234, the Fort Rucker Site at (334) 598-3438, or the Aviation Campus at Ozark at (334) 774-5113.
