GAT Course Descriptions
The GAT program is designed to prepare individuals that have (or may receive) authorization to take the FAA examination for certification as Aviation Maintenance Technicians with Airframe and/or Powerplant endorsements. The coursework involves classroom, lab, and computer-based instruction based on individual student needs.
Individuals with at least 18 months Airframe or Powerplant practical experience appropriate to the rating sought or have at least 30 months combined Airframe and Powerplant practical experience if both ratings are sought qualify for the program. Applicants must present documented evidence of experience satisfactory to the FAA representative (FAA 8610-2 Form). To set up a meeting with an FAA representative, talk to your training person or contact the FAA in Birmingham directly at 205-876-1300. Course scheduling is flexible and may be modified to best suit the needs of students and/or employers. Each course will meet a total of 30 hours. Typically, general subjects will meet 3.75 hours per day for eight days and airframe and powerplant subjects will meet 3.75 hours for sixteen days (or 8 days per course) respectively. Students are not required to take courses in a particular order. |
