Making the Decision: Is an Online Course for Me?

Most research indicates that taking online courses is akin to taking independent study courses. Students must be self-starters, capable of working independently, and willing to take full responsibility for their own learning. If you can answer YES to all of the questions below, then online courses might be for you. Any NO answers should be addressed before you take an online course.

1. Are you independent, self-motivated, and self-disciplined?
2. Can you set and stick to a schedule without supervision?
3. Do you have above average oral and written communication skills?
4. Are you good at reading and following complex written directions?
5. Are you good at independently solving complex problems?
6. Are you comfortable with computers and the Internet?
7. Do you have easy access to a computer with Internet access?

Even if you did answer YES to all seven questions, it would be wise to check out the online courses you are interested in to be familiar with their unique requirements.
