English 102 provides instruction and practice in the writing of formal, analytical essays, one of which is a major research project using sources effectively and legally. Additionally, English Composition II provides instruction in the development of analytical and critical reading skills and in the composition process. The course includes instruction and practice in library usage.
Taking an online class is very beneficial for people leading busy lives. With work and family to take care of, an online course might be the only way to even take a college course. While it is tempting to think that you will be able to do the work for this class in your “spare time,” don’t fool yourself. This is extremely time intensive.
Word processing skills are a must for this class. Can you set margins? Double space? Do you know how to center and left align? Set multiple page numbers? All of these tasks are necessary to produce a properly formatted paper.
An online course requires you to be self-motivated and self-disciplined. You will not be in a classroom for me to “nag” about getting your work completed on time. To some extent, you are your own instructor, having to both criticize and encourage yourself. However, you will not be alone. I am an active participant as an online instructor. I check on the class daily - answering e-mails, grading assignments, cheerleading and scolding as needed. I truly want every student to succeed.
