Syllabus
Course Description:
The study of human nature and behavior, with focus on the leading researchers
and latest developments in the field. This is an introductory psychology
course consisting of text readings, web-based assignments, and discussion.
Class Meetings:
This is an online course with three exam dates. See the Schedule page
for dates. Tests are taken online.
Course Objectives:
- Explores the major psychological approaches to the study of behavior
including their history, contributors, methods, research findings, terminology,
and current directions
- Explores the major psychological, social, and physical factors that
affect human behavior from conception to death
- Promotes the development of scientific values and skills, a recognition
of individual bias in experimentation, and the ability to evaluate generalizations
- Challenges some traditional perspectives in light of new knowledge
- Illuminates the decision-making processes used by researchers.

Exams:
Three exams, available online, will be given on the dates indicated on
the Schedule page. . The exams will cover material presented in the assigned
text readings. Each exam is worth 100 points. Score will be posted to
website on the Monday following each exam date.
WebCT Chat Room Participation:
Students will be offered the option of participating in a student "chat
room" on a regular basis. The instructor will answer/discuss questions
regarding the course materials. Participation is not required but encouraged.
Dr. Crook will monitor the chat room on Fridays 10:00 a.m. until 11:00
a.m.
Grades:
A 90 to 100%
B 80 to 89%
C 70 to 79%
D 60 to 69%
F Below 60%
Withdrawal Policy:
Withdrawal from the class requires the completion of a "drop"
or "withdrawal" form by the student. It is the student's responsibility
to complete this form. Failure to drop or withdraw will result in the
receipt of a grade of "F" or "FA" for the course.
